Articles and Book Reviews in Peer-Reviewed Journals
To ensure the widest possible dissemination of useful findings from their work, SSDS staff members routinely contribute to a variety of peer-reviewed journals.
Books, Guidelines, Manuals, Reports & Studies
SSDS applies educational, technical and editorial skills to the development of books and manuals, with contributions to the conception and substantive content. Staff members have written and edited materials designed to assist those working in such areas as HIV/AIDS, vector-borne diseases, diarrheal diseases and reproductive health, to undertake a variety of management and economic procedures including activity-based costing, cost-effectiveness analyses and financial leveraging.
Analytical and Teaching Case Studies
A number of SSDS staff members have expertise in the development of case studies for use in graduate-level teaching, and SSDS has a collection of such studies. These take the form of a story that describes a situation or a series of events. Sometimes students are given retrospective public policy cases and required to analyze decision-making that took place and how it was influenced, but usually the studies are constructed so that the analysis is only available in the instructor's notes. Students are then taught to analyze the data in the case, formulate decisions and come up with an action strategy that they can defend with their analysis. As is true in the real world, there are gaps in the information and some information may be contradictory. While not suitable for all subjects, case studies are - within the confines of a classroom - considered an excellent methodology for teaching certain kinds of analytical and decision-making skills.
